Port Vale in focus: 'The target can be reached - but only if Glover is sacked'

Saturday, April 04, 2009, 09:00

THERE are many people like me who bought a season ticket last year knowing full well they couldn't make all the games because of work commitments etc.

I work nearly every Saturday, but still bought one – as did my dad, who lives 100 miles away and finds it tough to get up here every week.

The only reason we bought them was to help the club reach their season ticket target.

We knew it would be a one-off season and couldn't justify renewing them this year. Between us, we have made around 25 games, but if we were to renew, we wouldn't get close to that many.

There are many other situations like ours, but you also have the credit crunch, and the boo boys who won't return, which is probably a good thing.

Realistically, Vale will only sell around 3,000 season tickets.

The key to next season will be generating offers game to game, for example 'buy one, get the second week half-price'.

I love the Vale and just hope next season is better. Some of Dean Glover's loan signings have been terrible and I still don't understand why the shining lights of the season in Rob Taylor, Louis Dodds and Steve Thompson don't get as many starts as they should do.

Give Glover the first 10 games of next year, after his own summer signings, and let's see where we are.

I went to Accrington last week. Their fans, all 800 of them, were brilliant – Vale fans should take note.

They sang from start to finish and stayed in the ground 10 minutes after the final whistle.

What have they got to sing about? A lot less than us.

Come on, Vale fans...

LEE COPE, Talke

A TWENTY-FIVE per cent increase in season ticket price with inflation at zero per cent and people losing jobs at record rates – never mind the fact that the football served up by Dean Glover has been atrocious.

However, the 5,000 target is there again and I believe it could be achieved if Glover is sacked.

Are Port Vale legally obliged to make him the manager? If not, due to Bill Bratt being an honourable man, keep Dean as a coach (call him assistant manager) and bring in a manager (director of football) who has some idea of how to manage a professional football team.

STEPHEN EDWARDS, Newcastle

IT WOULD be nice if the club shared a vision with the fans.

The club is just meandering in the dark at present, with no two, three or five-year plan.

Having this in the public eye may give supporters hope in what are some of the darkest days on the pitch.

WAYNE FRASER, Stoke

GREAT prices again Mr Bratt, well done – but I cannot part with £229 while Dean Glover is still manager. Sorry, Bill.

IAN FOSTER, Fenton

I WILL be renewing my season ticket. It's a great price – well done Bill – but I still believe something has to be done about Dean Glover and fear many other fans won't show the same 'through thick and thin' attitude as myself.

DAN JACQUES, Biddulph

DOES the board really expect to sell many season tickets with Dean Glover still in charge, serving up more of the same dreadful tactics – players out of position, unreal substitutions, players with pace and width on the bench or only appearing for the reserves?

Glover's constant attacks on the fans are doing enough damage without all of this.

The only thing we have to look forward to next season with Glover in charge is a fight for second bottom.

If the boards want to get back last summer's feel-good factor, sacking Golver before the tickets go on sale will put at least 1,000 extra sales on the final total.

As it is, we'll probably sell 2,000 at best.

STEVE JOHNSON, Merseyside

IT'S the vast majority, not a minority, of fans who want Glover to go.

TONY HOLFORD, Newport

I THINK that a simple announcement to say Dean Glover had been sacked as Vale's manager would provide a healthy boost to the club's season ticket sales.

ROY THOMPSON, Stafford

UNDER PRESSURE: Vale fans call for boss Dean Glover, right, to get the axe.
