Port Vale: Taylor benefits from the axe
The 26-year-old, pictured left, has been an integral part of a defence that has conceded just 37 goals in 36 League Two matches this season.
Taylor's recent dip in form had seen him start two of the last five games from the bench, but he earned a recall for Saturday's 5-0 victory at Chesterfield.
"When you get a knock-back it makes you look at your game to make sure you do the right things to stay in the team," said the full-back.
"My performances dipped and the gaffer isn't going to carry people – if I'm not performing, then I'm no good to the team.
"Micky did the right thing by leaving me out and it gave me the kick up the backside I needed."
Taylor, who has made 31 league starts this season, was left out of the 1-0 defeat at Morecambe on February 27, and for last Tuesday's 2-1 home victory over Bradford City.
But his dominant defensive display at Chesterfield should ensure he keeps his place for Saturday's trip to Cheltenham.
"On a personal level a performance like the one at Chesterfield gives you confidence, but more importantly it has given the team a lot of confidence and belief.
"Now we have to take that into the rest of the games."
VALE reserves travel to Sheffield Wednesday tonight (7pm).
