Port Vale: Rival talk

Wednesday, April 08, 2009, 09:00

Aldershot manager Gary Waddock speaks to the media after the 0-0 League Two draw with Port Vale at Vale Park

"WE WERE down to the bare bones tonight, especially defensively, and Dean Howell was really our only option as an emergency centre-back.

I thought he was outstanding and I'm very pleased for him. He hasn't had such a good season after doing extremely well for us last year, but he is a good player.

He gave us height and a bit of pace, and helped us keep a fantastic clean sheet.

Nikki Bull also pulled off some good saves and the rest of the lads gave a fully committed performance. I'm certainly happy with what I saw."
