Port Vale: Horsfield ready to take backseat role is Vale are firing
The 36-year-old assistant player-manager returns to Vale's squad for today's clash at Burton (3pm) after recovering from a hamstring injury which has kept him sidelined for two months.
He said: "I want to play and be part of this fantastic team, but I don't mind if the likes of Craig Davies, Sean Rigg and Marc Richards keep scoring and keep me out of the side.
"That will be brilliant because it will show we're doing our jobs if they're improving."
Injuries have limited Horsfield to 11 appearances this season, but his last first-team appearance was in the 2-0 home defeat by Morecambe on December 5.
He stepped up his comeback by scoring twice in the reserves' 5-2 Staffs Senior Cup quarter-final victory at Hednesford Town last month.
However, Vale have also bolstered their attacking resources since Christmas by extending Rigg's loan until the end of the season and taking Haldane on permanent terms.
Davies is also on loan until the end of the season from Brighton, meaning the race to partner 14-goal leading scorer Marc Richards up front has notched up a gear.
While Rigg has netted twice in his previous three outings, Davies hit his first goal for nearly a year in last weekend's 2-0 home win over Hereford.
"Craig needs more games to boost his match sharpness," added Horsfield.
"But he's a big strong lad, he's good in the air and he'll score goals at this level."
VALE have successfully appealed against the yellow card Tommy Fraser received in the Hereford clash on the grounds of mistaken identity.
However, the booking will now be attributed to Vale defender Gareth Owen, who made the offending challenge.
