Port Vale: Fans' verdict

Port Vale fans have their say on the 1-1 League Two draw with Bury at Vale Park

WE didn't do badly and certainly put in more effort than we did in defeats at Chesterfield and Exeter.

We didn't look like scoring and it was always going to take something special to find the net. James Lawrie provided that with an outstanding goal.

It was a fantastic effort, although James wasn't at the races in the first half. But he came to life in the second and played very well.

Sam Stockley also had a decent game and put in a good challenge near the end.

Chris Martin's handling was superb, and after making a couple of fine saves, he was also impressive.

Lawrie should play against Aldershot tomorrow night, even if Marc Richards is fit.

KEV WALSHAW, Cobridge

I left the ground thinking if we had been a bit more positive in the second half, we might have got the second goal and three points.

There was no difference between Bury and Vale on this showing and it shows you don't need massive resources to be successful.

Lawrie took his goal well and looks to be a real prospect, although today his first touch let him down on numerous occasions.

McCombe was immense at the back and seemed to be throwing himself into everything, but the defence blotted their copybook with more comical marking.

It was more workmanlike than anything else, but we didn't lose and perhaps the players can build on this tomorrow night.

But how many times have we said that this season?

CARL ZIEMANN, Sandyford

THERE was little to choose between the two sides until Lawrie's quick thinking put us ahead, but then Bury took a grip of the game and we gladly held out for the draw.

Chris Martin was excellent, as was Lawrie, and both look good prospects for the future.

Everyone tried hard, but loanee Paul Marshall gave the ball away far too often, Dave Brammer looked unfit and Rob Taylor was starved of service as our midfield looked desperately weak yet again.

Considering their lofty league position, the visitors looked no great 'Shakes', which just goes to show that solid performances and consistency will go a long way in this league.

The new season-ticket prices are very reasonable.

But I do get the feeling a lot of fans will hold on and wait for some positive signs that the club intends to go forward before making a decision.
