MICKY Adams is ready to ring the changes ahead of tomorrow's clash with Chesterfield after seeing his Port Vale side surrender their unbeaten run at Burton Albion.

Saturday's narrow 1-0 defeat at the Pirelli Stadium was Vale's first reverse in seven games and, while it was their first loss in nine away clashes in League Two.

"I said to the players after the game that we go back to square one now," said Adams as he prepares his side for the visit of Chesterfield.

"Generally, I try to stick with the lads who have done the business.

"But all that happens when you lose a game of football it is your right and prerogative as manager to change the side as you see fit, so yes, there will be changes."

One option available to Adams is to recall forward Lewis Haldane, who is available again after the one-match ban that ruled him out of Saturday's match.

Vale had been bidding to equal their best unbeaten league run away from home since 1969.

Their last away defeat was at Notts County in late September, after which Adams put his whole squad on the transfer list.

"That game has been well documented and now we have to start another run," added Adams.

"These records have all got to be broken at some stage. We're disappointed, but we'll live to fight another day."

Saturday's defeat drops Vale two places to 14th in League Two, eight points adrift of the play-offs zone and seventh-placed Chesterfield.

"We'll pick ourselves up and go again," said Adams.

"It's disappointing we've lost to Burton, but good luck to them. There are no easy games in this league.

"But regardless of whether we'd won or lost on Saturday, nothing is decided. There are 19 games left to go and we keep going."

"We've got an honest and hard-working bunch of players and we'll continue to do that."

Adams also missed out on the League Two Manager of the Month award for January.

The Football League accolade was awarded to Northampton Town boss Ian Sampson.
